The Sustainable Water Resource Handbook Volume 1
Sustainability experts, alive2green cc, have launched a new Handbook in their Sustainability Series. The Sustainable Water Resource Handbook, Volume 1, focuses on issues, policies and solutions related to the water sector.
Water has been consistently wasted and overused in many regions and there is a real danger that areas within South Africa could run out of water in the next few years and succumb to desertification. A recent UN report on the state of water in the world said that about 70 major rivers around the world are close to being totally drained in order to supply water for irrigation and reservoirs. There is now, more than ever, a desperate need for a single industry publication that provides the water industry stakeholders with the information that they need in order to make informed decisions.
The Water Resource Handbook publication could therefore not come at a more appropriate time. The industry desperately needs a single leading publication on the issues surrounding water and we believe this is it. Editorial contributors include Dr. Kevin Winter, lead researcher in urban water management at UCT, Ms Carin Bosman, executive director of Carin Bosman Sustainable Solution and ex-director of water resource protection and management at DWAF. Plus the renowned and outspoken Dr. Anthony Turton formerly of the CSIR and now director at touchstone research ltd and Mr Dave Nozaic, WISA 2010 committee chairman and the WSP group have also confirmed their chapter contribution. Everything from water uses, wastewater treatments, water in agriculture and mining and the urban and rural sectors will be looked at to understand the true embodied water contained in what we produce and operate.
The Water Resource Handbook is jointly edited and contributed to by Jac Wilsenach and Gareth McConkey. Jac is the Senior Wastewater Engineer at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Gareth is involved with Jantech cc, H2Oasis™ - Water and Sanitation Information Solutions and MAP - Municipal Assistant™ Partnership.
