Beyond Wireless Partners With Krohne

Local specialist machine-to-machine (m2m) solutions provider Beyond Wireless has appointed Krohne as channel Partner, a multinational company that specialises in the supply of process control and industrial instrumentation.

“Krohne is a well known specialist in the supply of flow meters. We believe this partnership will benefit both companies through their joint expertise in wireless remote monitoring and control and instrumentation, resulting in enhanced relationships with both sets of customers,” says Ian Lester, Beyond Wireless CEO.

“We recognise that we at Beyond Wireless can’t be experts in all industries at all times, but by actively partnering with companies who are authorities in their respective vertical markets, we can provide innovative solutions to those industries. Through our technology, which is complementary to theirs, we both end up with a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.”

John Alexander, Sales and Marketing Manager at Krohne, agrees, noting that the intention of the Beyond Wireless / Krohne partnership is to offer clients a complete solution from one source. “Krohne will focus on the industrial flow and level measurement arena in mines, water and waste water, and metals vertical markets, while Beyond Wireless will focus on one of its traditional markets – building / facilities management,” he says.

Alexander explains that the Beyond Wireless technology enables Krohne to offer a complete wireless monitoring and control solution to customers. “We can now provide clients’ data on an internet-based platform so the customer can decide what information he wants when and where, on demand,” he says.

Krohne flow meters with Beyond Wireless communications technology allow clients to access real-time data from anywhere in the world on any computer with an internet connection.

The Beyond Wireless m2m communications capabilities tap into the trend towards “cloud computing” and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Essentially, cloud computing extends IT capabilities by offering subscription-based or pay-per-use services over the “internet cloud”.

“Beyond Wireless offers the ‘in the cloud solution’, adding value to the Krohne offering by providing a wireless, web-based solution to the customer,” explains Alexander, adding that it is a low-cost solution in the long-term as the customer does not have to worry about software and software updates, which are inherent in the service.

“The customer is also able to add devices to the wireless monitoring and control platform other than flow meters as and when required,” he says. “The data is the client’s and is secure and safe. He can manipulate the information as he needs and utilise the platform to perform many other tasks, such as monitoring for specific instances, like leak detection / optimisation, for example, so that he can ensure that he is paying fairly for the consumption of water. He can determine consumption patterns and configure alarms to warn him if consumption exceeds the norm.”

Alexander points out that the Beyond Wireless system logs data on various analogue, digital and pulse inputs and also supports serial and Ethernet connectivity. “The system detects any user-configurable asset, specific alarms or abnormal operating conditions. The logged data is then viewed and analysed on any standard Internet browser, and, when an alarm condition is detected, the alarm can instantly be escalated through SMS and email to multiple recipients, informing them of the failure,” he says. “This can reduce response times, pre-empt equipment failures and the resultant interruption of services, loss of or damage to the asset and revenue losses. All historic data and exception reports are stored on the system and can be accessed through the Internet. Lower ongoing support costs and providing greater flexibility are some of the benefits to the customer.”

Alexander concludes that Krohne is proud to be associated with Beyond Wireless and sees the company’s wireless technology solutions as a valuable addition to its product and service offering, while Lester notes that with more than 80 years experience in industrial measurement and having operated in South Africa since 1967, Krohne has an excellent reputation in the industrial market for quality, reliable products and great after-sales service, and Beyond Wireless hopes to enjoy a long and successful relationship between the two entities well into the future.
